We are pleased to announce that Kris Olson, M.D. was recently named the first Thomas Durant Fellow in Refugee Medicine for the 2002-2003 academic year.
Kris, a dual United States and Canadian citizen, was raised on a small farm in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. He attended the University of British Columbia and completed a Bachelor of Science in Ecology in 1993 as a Canada, Science and Wesbrook Scholar.
He then attended the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine as one of four annual Justin Potter Scholars. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Award to attend the University of Sydney, Australia. There, he completed a Masters of Public Health focusing on epidemiology as well as the health of developing nations. Returning, he completed his medical degree in 1998.
He completed the Harvard Combined Residency Program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in June of 2002 and is currently working as an In-patient clinician of Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Kris has traveled extensively in developing nations, worked in malaria research
with the CDC in Africa, and is active with the Physicians for Human Rights
Asylum Network. He enjoys rock climbing, art and photography.
